Plantas Ancestrales y su Conocimiento en la Comunidad Kamentsa

En esta presentación compartiré mis experiencias como practicante en la tradición yagécera del Alto Putumayo de Colombia, una herencia que me ha sido transmitida por mi abuelo, Taita Martín Agreda, y mi padre Taita Juan Bautista Agreda Chindoy. En este momento de la historia, en el que muchos miembros de mi comunidad Kamentsa, especialmente los jóvenes, prefieren las modas y la medicina occidental a nuestra propia cultura y medicina tradicional, estoy enfocando mi trabajo en los esfuerzos por preservar nuestras plantas y prácticas ancestrales. En los últimos años, he viajado junto con mi padre a otros países de América del Sur y Mesoamérica para compartir nuestras prácticas tradicionales de curación y reunirnos con otros pueblos indígenas. También ayudo a mi papa con sus tratamientos en nuestra casa en Sibundoy, Putumayo. Mi presentación describirá mis experiencias iniciadas desde la niñez hasta el presente. Hablaré sobre mi trabajo junto a mi padre y cómo proporcionamos tratamientos específicos para nuestros pacientes. También hablaré sobre plantas y preparaciones ancestrales específicas, además del yagé, que también se usan como parte de estos tratamientos y la importancia de preservar estas plantas para la salud de nuestra comunidad.

Ancestral Plants: Knowledge in the Kamentsa Community  

In this presentation I will share my experiences as a practitioner in the yagé tradition of the Alto Putumayo of Colombia, an inheritance that has been passed down to me by my grandfather, Taita Martín Agreda, and my father Taita Juan Bautista Agreda Chindoy. At this moment in history, when many members of my Kamentsa community, especially the youth, prefer modern trends and western medicine over our own culture and traditional medicine, I am focusing my work to be able to advance efforts to preserve our ancestral plants and practices. In recent years I have traveled with my father to other countries in South America and Mesoamerica to share our traditional healing practices and to meet with other indigenous people. I also work helping my father administer treatments in our home clinic based in Sibundoy. My presentation will describe my experiences being initiated from childhood through the present. I will speak about my experiences working alongside my father and how we provide specific treatments for our patients. I will also speak about specific ancestral plants and preparations, besides the yagé brew, that are also used as part of these treatments and the importance of preserving these plants for the health of our community.
